EMBRACING CULTURAL FLUENCY SERIES

Harmony Movement encourages Canadians to value diversity and to foster a commitment to a just, caring society.  Our mission is to address equity issues and promote inclusion by educating and empowering youth.  We facilitate over 100 diversity programs and project every year in school boards and communities across the Greater Toronto Area and Southwestern Ontario.

Thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to work in the Peel Region, we are now able to expand the delivery of our programming to include not only more youth, but adults as well.  Last year we approached MIAG to partner with us to deliver the adult education component of the grant, and it has been such a pleasure to work with the organization ever since.

The partnership between Harmony Movement and MIAG includes the delivery of the “Embracing Cultural Fluency” workshop series, a leadership development opportunity for service providers in the Peel Region.  This series, facilitated by Mr. Nouman Ashraf, explores issues of cultural fluency from personal, organizational and sectoral perspectives.  Participants gain the cultural fluency skills needed to build an equitable team that values and benefits from the diversity of the communities they serve.

This year, the leadership and direction from MIAG helped to make this series a success.  Their credibility in the community and the relationships they build with different organizations helped to bring a diverse group of participants to each workshop.  Their commitment to community development is quite remarkable and we look forward to continuing this partnership.  On behalf of Harmony Movement I would like to thank the staff and volunteers at MIAG for making this project a success!
