PEEL CHILDREN IN ACTION (PCIA): 2004-PRESENT
This project is funded by Healthy Living Peel as well and targets children from low-income newcomer families, and single mothers during the summer holiday. Mississauga Recreation and Parks, the Muslim Youth Soccer League, Hispanic Bethlehem Church, the Peel Health Department, Dixie Bloor Neighborhood Services and Community members have also helped out.
More than 210 children from the Muslim and Hispanic communities have benefited from this project. The Hispanic Community program takes place every Friday since the end of the spring and during the summer holiday.
This program promotes being active through soccer practice and tournaments and provides information about healthy living. Parents, family and other community members participate. They enjoy seeing their children playing, sharing knowledge about how to keep themselves healthy, building communities, developing a support network, as well as learning how to access health information and services. |
