Craft & Chat

Craft & Chat is a weekly drop-in hybrid program designed primarily for older adults, especially those over 55 years. It offers both in-person and virtual participation throughout the program, allowing flexible access for participants. The program brings people together to explore crafts, build social connections, and participate in wellness-focused activities. It includes light physical exercises, conversational engagement, and guided creative sessions.

In addition to crafting, the program includes information and awareness sessions on topics such as elder abuse prevention, financial literacy, and healthy aging. It also promotes intergenerational volunteering opportunities, encouraging meaningful connections between age groups and strengthening community engagement.

Who Can Join

The program is designed for older adults, especially those aged 55+, and is open to diverse and equity-deserving community members.

No prior craft experience is required, and the program is inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to all skill levels.

Where does it take place?

Sessions will be delivered in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual participation through MIAG's community space and online engagement options. The space and delivery model are designed to be accessible, safe, and supportive of participation.

Why this program?

Craft & Chat aims to reduce social isolation, support mental and physical well-being, and strengthen community connection. It brings together creativity, learning, and wellness to promote active aging, inclusion, and peer support in a safe and engaging environment.

Volunteer Component

Craft and Chat further contributes to engaging seniors in the community through mentoring. Senior volunteers and peer leaders mentor younger participants and volunteers by sharing life experience, skills, and creative techniques during structured craft activities, enhancing their sense of purpose and reinforcing intergenerational connections.
