Urban Barn Launches 2025 “Blanket the Country” Campaign

- Local Impact Reimagined Reaching Coast to Coast -

Burnaby, BC (October 1, 2025) –  Urban Barn, the proudly 100% Canadian-owned and operated furniture and décor retailer with 54 stores nationwide, is honoured to launch the 2025 edition of its annual charitable initiative, Blanket the Country. Since 2012, the charities across Canada. This year, Blanket the Country has been reimagined to deliver even greater local impact by directly pairing each Urban Barn store with a non-profit organization in its community.  From food banks and shelters to counselling, essential services and more, Urban Barn’s partnership with 37 different local non-profit organizations ensures support reaches neighbours where it’s needed most.

In Mississauga, Urban Barn is proud to support  Eden Food Bank   and MIAG Centre for Diverse Women & Families.

How It Works

Today through October 31, 2025, customers can make a suggested $5 donation at checkout, in-store or online. Urban Barn will match every contribution, doubling the impact and ensuring support stays close to home. Donors will receive a thank-you offer of 20% off regularly priced décor with a minimum $100 purchase (valid November 1–23). While October is Urban Barn’s month of giving, the campaign continues year-round, with customers invited to contribute $2 or more from November 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026.

“Blanket the Country is fundamentally about compassion in action,” says Linda Letts, President of Urban Barn. “By supporting the efforts of our non-profit partners and keeping donations rooted in local communities, every act of generosity helps provide immediate and meaningful support. Together with our customers through the “Blanket the Country” initiative,  we’re helping to ensure that those facing hardship have access to the assistance they need while feeling seen, valued and cared for.”

And the need is urgent. Today in Canada, 1 in 7 people experience food insecurity, and shelters are operating near or at capacity.

In addition to Eden Food Bank and MIAG Centre for Diverse Women & Families,  local non-profit Blanket the Country partners range from North Shore Crisis Services Society and Brown Bagging For Calgary’s Kids to Interval House of Hamilton and Fondation Véro & Louis, alongside 31 other grassroots organizations. A complete list of participating non-profit organizations is available here.

• Unit 2 – 6085 Belgrave Road, Mississauga, ON L5R 4E6 (Ontario Outlet)

In a world where staying connected often means being online , it’s easy for older adults to feel left behind. But what if technology could become a bridge rather than a barrier? TechConnect 55+ , a program offered by the MIAG Centre for Diverse Women & Families , does exactly that. It invites adults aged 55+ in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon to step into the digital world — not as passive observers, but as confident, curious, and active participants.. From Hesitation to Confidence Every click, swipe, and tap becomes a step toward independence. Whether learning smartphone basics, joining a video call, or sending an email, participants gradually move from “I don’t know how” to “I can do this.” TechConnect 55+ is designed with patience, respect, and community spirit — no prior experience required. More than Just Tech What makes TechConnect 55+ special is that it’s not only about mastering devices — it’s about connection, confidence, and community . Intergenerational support – Youth Ambassadors provide friendly, one-on-one guidance, while seniors share their life wisdom, fostering mutual learning and respect. Vital life skills – Workshops cover online safety, banking and health portals, discovering useful apps, and preventing digital scams. Holistic wellness – Each session integrates mental well-being, gentle movement, elder abuse awareness, and social engagement — even field trips where participants can apply what they’ve learned in real life. Why It Matters Digital equity is about more than access — it’s about inclusion, dignity, and participation. Through TechConnect 55+: Seniors stay connected with loved ones, manage health and finances, and remain engaged with their communities. They gain confidence and independence in an increasingly digital world. Families and caregivers benefit from a supportive, culturally sensitive environment that bridges generations. At MIAG, we believe: “Aging should never mean being left behind.”

On the morning of May 23, something truly special happened. Over cups of coffee, plates of delicious breakfast, and the company of generous hearts, we gathered for our first-ever Breakfast Fundraising Event—and what a beautiful success it was! This wasn’t just about raising funds; it was about raising hope, building community, and sharing a meal with people who share our belief in the work we do. As we reflect on that day, we’re filled with deep gratitude for every guest, every volunteer, and especially, every donor who helped turn this vision into reality.

In every neighborhood, there’s a quiet power that often goes unnoticed—the power of people helping people. Whether it’s offering a warm meal, a listening ear, or simply a smile, these everyday acts of kindness are the building blocks of something much greater: a strong, peaceful, and united community. In a multicultural environment, where different languages, traditions, and histories meet, this spirit of helping becomes even more meaningful. It fosters understanding, encourages respect, and reminds us that diversity is not a challenge, it’s a gift. When we work together across cultures, we don’t just support individuals, we build bridges, strengthen families, and create communities where everyone feels they belong.

The program addresses the harmful effects of isolation by fostering physical activity, mental sharpness, social connection, and awareness of safety issues such as fraud.
