A Message from the Women's Empowerment Network

Kerri Lambie Project Coordinator • April 14, 2022

MIAG Centre for Diverse Women & Families would like to make an acknowledgement!

The word congratulations is written on a piece of paper on a table.

MIAG would like to celebrate the completion of the Women’s Empowerment Network Program on March 31st, 2022, and its goal of providing educational and skill building sessions to Mississauga's resident women.  By financially supporting this program the Community Foundation of Mississauga helped women across Mississauga to enhance their learning of different essential life skills, how to be involved - especially during the pandemic and times of isolation, and how to expand their support network.

Thank you, Community Foundation of Mississauga, and Pendle Fund; MIAG appreciates your support.

The Women’s Empowerment Network program ran for 35 sessions on Fridays via Zoom from 10 am to 12 pm. The program was composed of two components, which supported physical movement and provided education to participants on a wide range of topics, some of which included:

Everything Technology

Employment and Skill-building

Self Empowerment

Creativity & Self Expression

Financial Literacy for Women

Women’s Health and Nutrition

Personal Safety

The Art of Storytelling

Health, Wellness & Clean Beauty

The Women’s Empowerment Network program welcomed professionals from various organizations and industries to facilitate sessions using their expertise on specific capacity and skill building topics. Through this program also a Facebook Group was created to encouraged participants to share their accomplishments and to remain in contact.

“MIAG is a place for me of learning, teaching and acceptance. The staff are respectful. I have already learnt a great deal from the Women Empowerment Network sessions. After only two classes l am getting confident and acquiring knowledge on Zoom. Another confidence booster was the personality colour test, it makes one accept who we are with pride. I recommend this program to others. These classes are essential for everyone. It gets us together; its a learning experience and we also get to meet new people. The facilitator is patient, respectful and always follows up with any questions. Thank you so much.” Participant Ann G.

On the morning of May 23, something truly special happened. Over cups of coffee, plates of delicious breakfast, and the company of generous hearts, we gathered for our first-ever Breakfast Fundraising Event—and what a beautiful success it was! This wasn’t just about raising funds; it was about raising hope, building community, and sharing a meal with people who share our belief in the work we do. As we reflect on that day, we’re filled with deep gratitude for every guest, every volunteer, and especially, every donor who helped turn this vision into reality.

In every neighborhood, there’s a quiet power that often goes unnoticed—the power of people helping people. Whether it’s offering a warm meal, a listening ear, or simply a smile, these everyday acts of kindness are the building blocks of something much greater: a strong, peaceful, and united community. In a multicultural environment, where different languages, traditions, and histories meet, this spirit of helping becomes even more meaningful. It fosters understanding, encourages respect, and reminds us that diversity is not a challenge, it’s a gift. When we work together across cultures, we don’t just support individuals, we build bridges, strengthen families, and create communities where everyone feels they belong.

Pathways to Wellness is a 20-week program designed to support seniors in building wellness, safety, and a sense of belonging. Offered in person and online, it provides a welcoming space where participants engage in gentle movement, meaningful conversations, and practical skill-building. The program addresses the harmful effects of isolation by fostering physical activity, mental sharpness, social connection, and awareness of safety issues such as fraud. A flexible and inclusive approach empowers seniors to grow stronger, more confident, and more connected, week by week.

How to Prioritize Mental Health and Develop New Skills After Job Loss

Conflict and crises are common in the non-profit sector, where we often work with vulnerable populations. Conflict can significantly impact our organization's health and effectiveness, whether we’re dealing with clients in distress, navigating interpersonal issues among staff, or handling high-stakes situations with community partners.

Mondays often carry a reputation of being the least loved day of the week. After all, they signify the end of a restful weekend and the beginning of another work-filled week.
